Champion athletes, artists and student leaders recognized at June 9 Board of Education meeting

From artistic talent to championship athletic performances, Connetquot students were recognized for a wide range of accomplishments during the June 9 Board of Education meeting.
Among those honored were Oakdale-Bohemia Middle School student Mia Smith-Pasquerella and Ronkonkoma Middle School student Rebecca Mazaroski, who were recognized as national recipients of the Outstanding Achievement Award from the National Junior Honor Society.
The district also celebrated the accomplishments of students Brooke Shurgin, Konnor Mastrodicasa, Maria Argueta-DiNucci, Peter Kowalevich IV, Bethany Harding, Sydney Stylianos, Dylan Zimmerman and Cameron Zimmerman who were featured as part of the Bay Area Friends of the Fine Arts (BAFFA) exhibit. Kirsten Murphy was also recognized for being selected to be a part of Long Island’s Best at the Heckscher Museum of Art. With over 400 entries, only 80 pieces were selected, and Kirsten’s was one of them.
Connetquot’s athletic programs were also in the spotlight. The varsity baseball team was recognized for capturing its second consecutive Suffolk County championship, while the girls track team celebrated an undefeated league championship season and a Suffolk County title. The boys track team was also honored as Suffolk County champions.
The recognitions highlighted the talent and hard work of Connetquot students across academics, the arts and athletics, showcasing the many ways they continue to make the district proud.
