During recess at Oakdale-Bohemia Middle School, a student began choking and quickly sought help from the supervising teacher on duty, Sharon Johnson. Acting with calm and precision, Ms. Johnson immediately performed the Heimlich maneuver, successfully clearing the obstruction and ensuring the student’s safety.

In recognition of her swift, decisive and life-saving actions, the Board of Education formally honored Ms. Johnson during their Dec. 9 meeting, expressing deep gratitude for her heroism and dedication to student well-being.
