OBMS inducts 44 students into National Junior Honor Society

Oakdale-Bohemia Middle School hosted its National Junior Honor Society induction ceremony on Nov. 17, celebrating 44 students for their outstanding scholarship, leadership, service, citizenship and character.
The ceremony opened with a performance of the National Anthem by the OBMS Show Choir. NJHS advisor Ms. Senia then welcomed families and introduced the inductees.
Connetquot High School senior and former OBMS NJHS member Olivia DiGaetano addressed the new inductees, sharing her reflections on the privilege of being part of the honor society and encouraging students to continue striving for excellence.
Following her remarks, NJHS officers, President Hassanatou Diallo, Vice President Jake Gesseck, Secretary Wyatt Ruppert, Treasurer Wesley McCuen and publicists Chase Adler, Cora Grippo and Leah LaBarba, participated in the traditional candle lighting ceremony with each candle representing one of the society’s core values.
Student Andrew Vereb then led a special honorary induction of teacher, Mr. Agatstein, recognizing his dedication to the school community.
Board of Education President Marissol Mallon concluded the ceremony by leading the official NJHS pledge, formally welcoming all 44 new members into the prestigious organization.
