An apple a day… teaches data at Sycamore Avenue

Mrs. Clare’s kindergarten class at Sycamore Avenue welcomed the fall season with an apple-themed lesson that had students collecting and mapping some “delicious data”. From seed to tree to fruit, students explored the life cycle of an apple while incorporating science, math, and a little taste-testing fun.
The highlight of the unit was a classroom apple tasting in which students sampled red, green, and yellow apples. After trying each variety, students graphed their favorites and used the results to learn about data collection and interpretation.
The results are in: red apples were the clear favorite, with green apples taking second place and yellow apples trailing with just one devoted fan!
