Paws of War leaves a lasting paw print on Cherokee Street Elementary

On September 11, students at Cherokee Street Elementary welcomed a special guest from Paws of War, a local charitable organization dedicated to making a difference.
Paws of War’s mission is to support veterans, first responders and their families, especially those coping with invisible wounds like Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, by providing them with highly trained service dogs. These dogs serve not only as loyal companions but also as sources of healing and support. In addition, the organization rescues and rehabilitates both dogs and cats, giving them a second chance at life.
Speaker and veteran Gary, accompanied by his service dog Lucy, visited the school to educate students about the important work Paws of War is doing in the community and beyond. Lucy was the star of the assembly, charming students as she made her way around the room and gave everyone a chance to pet her.
