Connetquot Focuses on Fire Safety

In honor of October being National Fire Prevention Month, Connetquot students spent time learning from the firefighters who serve their communities. Several schools welcomed local fire departments or headed out for visits of their own to learn more about fire safety.
Edith L. Slocum Elementary students paid a visit to the Lakeland Fire Department, where they learned what to do in an emergency, hopped aboard the trucks and checked out the equipment firefighters use each day. Lakeland firefighters also stopped by Cherokee Street Elementary School to talk fire prevention, share safety tips and give students a closer look at their gear.
At Edward J. Bosti Elementary, members of the West Sayville Fire Department answered students’ questions about fire safety before heading outside to explore a fire truck. The visits gave students a chance to ask questions, see firefighters at work and, most importantly, learn what they can do to keep themselves and their families safe.
