Sycamore Avenue students sink their teeth into predator vs. prey dynamics

Fourth graders at Sycamore Avenue Elementary welcomed Western Suffolk BOCES for a fascinating program exploring the world of predator and prey animals.
Students analyzed animal skulls and teeth to distinguish between carnivores and herbivores. The lesson focused on identifying predator adaptations such as forward-facing eyes, sharp teeth and larger eyes for nocturnal hunting, compared with prey features such as horns used for defense. At the end of the program, students took part in a guessing game, examining real animal skulls and teeth up close to figure out which animals they came from.
