Positive Psychology students bring mindfulness to RMS

Connetquot High School’s Positive Psychology class visited Ronkonkoma Middle School for a day of interactive workshops during the middle schoolers’ lunch periods. Students had the opportunity to visit the gym and rotate through a variety of stations designed to promote mindfulness, teamwork, and self-expression.
Activities included coloring paper snowflakes and writing what makes each student unique on them, tying into the district’s EASL theme for January, “Acceptance.” Middle schoolers also participated in team-building challenges, such as passing a hula hoop around a circle without using their hands and arranging themselves in birthday order without speaking.
The high school students led a guided mindfulness meditation in the calming gym environment, complete with soft lighting and comfortable cushions. The event concluded with students receiving goodie bags filled with motivational stickers, fidget toys and other fun items, giving them tools to carry positivity and focus into their day.
