Dressed in red and filled with T-bird spirit, the Connetquot school community and alumni flocked to Connetquot High School on Sept. 21 for the school’s homecoming game against Sachem High School North. A cheering crowd lined 7th street as students and community members energetically marched in a parade ahead of the big game. Cheerleaders, kickline, marching band, student government members, the homecoming court, members from Connetquot’s first graduating class of 1964 and more marched in the parade alongside themed floats. Ahead of the game, Connetquot honored community heroes, including first responders, military members, veterans, police officers, firefighters and others who serve the community in a special ceremony. Those being honored walked across the football field, stopping at the 50-yard line, as those in the bleachers paid tribute to their hard work, dedication and service. The “bird cage” roared with excitement as the Connetquot Thunderbirds took to the field, ready to face off against Sachem High School North. The Thunderbirds gave it their all, taking the win in overtime with a final score of 21-14.
