Cherokee Street students find magic in reading through library’s summer challenge

Congratulations to Cherokee Street Elementary School on winning the Connetquot Public Library’s summer reading challenge. Over the summer, the Connetquot Public Library presented a summer reading challenge to all seven of Connetquot Central School District’s elementary schools. To complete the challenge, students were first asked to register at the library, then read 30 books at their grade level.

A total of 81 Cherokee Street students signed up for the challenge and 50 completed it with a whopping 1,682 books logged. Students earned badges in increments of five books read but completed the challenge by reading 30 total books. With the highest number of sign-ups and completions, Cherokee Street Elementary students won an assembly from David FunN, a Long Island children and family entertainer and magician. The show was held at Cherokee Street Elementary School and included comical magic tricks, music and audience participation.
