Idle Hour principal finds herself ‘in a sticky situation’ in the name of science

On March 21, Idle Hour Elementary Principal Mrs. Rubin found herself “in a sticky situation.” Mrs. Rubin held a “principal’s challenge,” promising that if 65 students participated in the school’s Makerspace Science Fair on March 19, she would allow the students to duct tape her to the wall. The idea was proposed by the school’s student government.

The students went above and beyond— 75 students signed up to participate in the Makerspace Fair! The fair featured projects from kindergarten through fifth graders, showcasing their creativity and STEM skills. The event encouraged students to upcycle everyday items, transforming them into innovative new creations.

True to her word, Mrs. Rubin stood against the wall on March 21 with two chairs beneath each foot. Students lined up to place their piece of duct tape from her shoulders to her ankles. After every student took their turn, the chairs were removed, and it was clear that the duct tape had done its job. Mrs. Rubin stuck to the wall as her students erupted in cheers!
