Ronkonkoma Middle School seventh and eighth graders in Ms. Pope, Ms. Atkins, Ms. Doherty, Ms. Perry, Ms. Flynn, Ms. McAleavey, Mr. Hauser, Ms. Halverson and Ms. Steininger’s math classes celebrated Pi Day by measuring the circumference and diameter of circular objects. Among the objects were Play-Doh, Oreos and cups.

The students measured each circular object and then divided the circumference by the diameter to obtain a value as close as possible to pi (3.14 centimeters). By measuring, the students realized it didn’t matter the size of the circle; any time a circle's circumference was compared to its diameter, the value divided to equal pi!
