Dear Cherokee Street Families,
Welcome back to the new school year! I hope you had a wonderful, relaxing summer vacation with your family. We are excited to welcome you back to Cherokee and thrilled to meet our incoming kindergarteners. Cherokee is a special, dynamic place where all children can learn and succeed. Cherokee is a family and a community that is inviting and warm. We value your child’s uniqueness and look forward to providing them with the opportunity to explore and progress in a positive, yet challenging environment.
On a personal note, I am happy to have had the time to spend with my family during my maternity leave this summer. Baby Madison and big sister Sienna are doing great! My husband and I have enjoyed the time off with our girls, even with the lack of sleep.
I am grateful and elated to continue this journey with you as your Principal. Over the past year, I have had the opportunity to meet many of you and get to know your children. I look forward to continuing to build a strong relationship with the Cherokee community. The amazing Cherokee staff has had a great summer and have come back rejuvenated and ready to go! They have had many professional development experiences to help enhance their skills and learn new strategies to support your children academically and socially.
We continue to support the district’s curriculum goals and initiatives. All classrooms have been stocked with new libraries full of great reads for your children to foster a love of reading and support literacy in the classroom. The teachers will continue to focus on writer’s workshop, which has shown to be an impressive success by the evidence of your children’s writing pieces from last year. Lastly, we are very delighted to have an Innovation Lab and Computer Science and Engineering teacher that will be working with our classes to enhance our student’s knowledge of these subject areas. Your child will have the opportunity to explore and discover these exciting topics.
