(Updated: December 5, 2024)
Dear parents/guardians of current 10th & 11th grade students,
Your child may be eligible to attend a career/vocational training program at Eastern Suffolk BOCES as part of their academic day during the 2025-26 school year. Interested students must complete an application to be considered. BOCES will make the ultimate decision as to whether or not to accept a student into their program, after evaluating candidates in three categories: grades (or academic performance), attendance, and discipline. Applicants will be reviewed on a lottery system by BOCES. BOCES will randomly assign a number to each submitted application and review all applications in assigned number order after March 1, 2025.
Students who submit applications must meet with their counselor to ensure that there is appropriate space in their schedule to allow them to attend their desired program. Additionally, students who have an IEP or 504 plan are strongly encouraged to indicate their desire to attend a BOCES program at their Annual Review meeting.
The process, as well as a suggested timeline for applications, is outlined below:
Please note that BOCES enrollment is an annual admission. Students are not eligible to enroll once the school year has begun. It is imperative that students strongly consider their desire to attend such a program. Changing or dropping BOCES enrollment to return full-time to the high school can present scheduling challenges.
Students entering their junior year will attend BOCES during the second half of their school day, which equates to four (4) academic periods at a BOCES site. These students return to the high school after the school day and take late bus transportation. Seniors who attend BOCES are eligible to attend a morning program, which means that they are at a BOCES site for five (5) academic periods.
In the event that your student is interested in attending a BOCES career/vocational program, a copy of the BOCES application has been attached to this mailing for your convenience. A full list of BOCES programs is available for review HERE.
Should you have questions regarding BOCES career/vocational programs and their potential benefit for your student, please contact your child’s counselor or Connetquot High School’s Counseling Center at 631-244-2228 option 2.
Sincerely,
Jessica Yawney-Kohler
