Project Scope of Work

Sycamore Avenue Elementary School

  • Auditorium Renovations
The request was made to make improvements to the existing auditorium. The scope of work will include, replacement of existing 2x2 dropped ceiling and house lighting, minor acoustical upgrades, replacement of sound system, installation of a new video projector and screen, stage and theatrical lighting upgrades. Additionally the request was made to install a new roof top heating, ventilation and air conditioning unit. The work will include new RTU, electrical, ductwork, insulation, supplemental steel, roof patching and control wiring.

  • Playground Replacement
Installation of a new grade appropriate play ground structure for the building. Work shall include, excavation, drainage, play structure and ADA compliant safety surface. Provide ADA walkway to new structure.

  • Refurbishment of Library to create new Media Center
Convert existing library into a multi functional media center intended to expand students creativity where they can gain access to information and resources. The term used Is a "shared learning space". This will involve new furniture including flexible seating options, and shelving, ceiling and lighting replacement, replacement of existing flooring, the introduction of new A/C, electrical, demolition, technology a new circulation desk, finishes and carpentry. Open wall between the existing library and the computer lab with a glass partition which will improve line of site and allow for the spaces to feel larger than they are.

  • Ceiling and Lighting Replacement
Replace remaining sections of corridor and cafeteria ceilings and lighting with new 2x2 ceilings and LED lighting

  • Exterior Masonry Reconstruction
Exterior masonry reconstruction required at many locations throughout the building. Over time, it appears the face brick has taken on water and during the freeze/thaw cycle, sections of face brick have come loose from the exterior and fallen to the floor. It does not appear that the building was built with a cavity to allow for moisture to escape. This limits our options to replacement of the damaged face brick and apply an exterior water repellent to the exterior elevations throughout the building. We also recommend opening up the exterior louvers along the foundation of the building to improve crawl space ventilation.

  • Interior Classroom Reconstruction
Currently rooms 201 and 211 have been divided with walls that extend 3/4 of the way in an effort to create completely separate teaching spaces. This is found to be problematic as there is little privacy between the spaces. We recommend removing the walls and installing new sound proof walls to separate the 2 spaces. A new door off the corridor will be installed to allow for separate access into each space. Existing ceiling and lighting will be replaced as well as the re-circuiting of the lighting so each set of lights can turn on independently. VAT removal and HVAC work is included under each individual scope. Provide proper sound proofing to music room directly off the cafeteria.

  • HVAC Reconstruction
Currently the first and second floor of the building has no means of mechanical fresh air ventilation. Each classroom space is heated with perimeter baseboard heat and the only means of fresh air ventilation is via opening the classroom windows. All student occupied spaces must be equipped with mechanical fresh air ventilation. Additionally room 112 was broken up into multiple rooms and the same conditions apply to these spaces. New Unit ventilators and exhaust fans should be installed. Each fan will be interlocked into the UV to ensure when in the occupied mode, no space becomes over or under pressurized. All new equipment will be tied into the new BMS system. A new exhaust fan will also be added into the single stall corridor toilet at the second floor.

  • Pavement, Sidewalk and Curb Replacement
Replace asphalt on 2 existing basketball courts, provide ADA concrete walks to all existing play toy areas (5'-0" wide), and replace curbing and sidewalk along the North end of the building.

  • HVAC reconstruction
Replacement and upgrade of misc. pneumatic controlled H&V equipment to DDC controlled. Convectors, fan coil units, convectors, mixing valves etc.

  • Exterior Drainage
Improve storm water drainage in North parking lot at 2 locations where water pools during heavy rains.

  • Replace Existing underground Electric Service
Replace existing incoming Primary lines from street to existing pad mounted transformer.

  • Vinyl Asbestos Floor Tile Abatement
Replace all remaining asbestos floor tile and vinyl cove base. Bulk scrape all existing mastic. Furnish and install new vinyl composite tile, 6" rubber cove base. Proper floor prep prior to installing new flooring shall also be required. Work shall be completed in strict accordance with NYSDOL ICR 56.
