Connetquot High School presents “Legally Blonde the Musical”

Connetquot High School students performing

Connetquot High School proudly presented their production of “Legally Blonde the Musical” from March 13-15 in the school’s Eric Martinsen Performing Arts Center.

The show follows the journey of Elle Woods, a determined, pink-obsessed student who defies expectations to enroll in Harvard Law School and prove her worth. The talented cast, crew and orchestra worked tirelessly to bring the show’s colorful set designs, costumes, spectacular musical numbers and choreography to life.

The students and staff dedicate months of their time and energy to put on a production they are proud of,” said club adviser and producer Nicole White. “We are so happy to see it come to life on stage for them and the audience. The students in our cast, crew, tech team and pit orchestra are the best of the best. They came together for an impressive display of creative talents here at Connetquot High School, and I am thrilled that the community got to enjoy this experience with them.”

This year, Connetquot High School has introduced a new mock trial team, giving students the opportunity to practice their legal skills by competing against other schools. Recently, the team faced off against Harborfields High School in a fictional case involving a superintendent suing a student for defamation.

The case is provided by the Suffolk County Bar Association and students practice both defense and plaintiff roles, using an affidavit provided by the bar association to guide their preparation.

Currently, the team has 12 students from tenth through twelfth grade. The team is led by Mr. Faivre, an attorney and social studies teacher at the high school.

Following their most recent debate, the top 16 teams from Suffolk County will move on to a regional competition, with winners advancing to the state level.

In celebration of Digital Learning Day on Feb. 27, Connetquot honored and recognized teachers around the district who are leading the way in utilizing and integrating digital tools, dubbing them “Digital Heroes”.

These educators have gone above and beyond to support their students and colleagues in navigating the digital learning landscape. Each building principal nominated one Digital Hero from their building who exemplified leadership, innovation and dedication to the integration of technology into the classroom. These educators not only use digital tools effectively but are also sources of inspiration and support for their colleagues.

Congratulations to Julia DeMaio (Idle Hour Elementary), Nicolette D’Ambrosio (Cherokee Street Elementary), Douglas Dos Santos (Oakdale-Bohemia Middle School), Alan Fertmann (Connetquot High School), Patricia Firenze (John Pearl Elementary), Ross Grandin (Connetquot High School), Jessica Grieve (Helen B. Duffield Elementary), Elizabeth Jonas (Edith L. Slocum Elementary), Christina Ladick (Sycamore Avenue Elementary), Lisa Manzo (Edward J. Bosti Elementary) and Debra Smith (Ronkonkoma Middle School) on being named Digital Heroes!

Each winner received a certificate of recognition and a free school subscription to Gemini for the remainder of the year, further supporting their efforts in digital learning.

Connetquot High School proudly hosted its annual Model United Nations conference earlier this month. Student delegates from nine visiting schools joined for a day of rigorous debate and diplomatic collaboration. The event commenced with inspiring opening remarks from New York State Senator Alexis Weik, who emphasized the importance of global awareness, civic engagement and leadership among today’s youth.

Delegates engaged in thoughtful discussions on a wide range of global topics, including the refugee crisis in the Mediterranean, the French Revolution, ongoing instability in Haiti, American citizenship policies and the urgent matter of child labor and exploitation.

The conference not only encouraged students to think globally but also fostered a spirit of cooperation and leadership. Connetquot High School looks forward to continuing this tradition of empowering young minds to become the next generation of informed and compassionate global citizens.
