RMS, OBMS & CHS students shine in STEM competitions

Students across the Connetquot Central School District have been making impressive strides in STEM, and their hard work has recently been recognized in several competitions!

On Jan. 25, Oakdale-Bohemia Middle School’s LEGO Robotics Team 3592 won the Robot Performance Award, where they earned 275 points at the FIRST LEGO League Robotics Qualifier held at Mineola High School. Congratulations to members Riley Barry, Daniel Ehlers, William Hackett, Javier Hernandez, Bradley Lamour, Zachary Snitkin, Xin Lei Sun, Gia Tehran, Jacob Tobal and their adviser Doug dos Santos.

Ronkonkoma Middle School’s LEGO Robotics Team 2652 tied for fourth place in robot performance, where they earned 190 points at the same competition. Great job to members Hartley Ahner, Brady Andreola, Bisaj Paul, Jake Ruggiero, Zoe Weissberg and to their adviser Anthony Carbonaro.

Under the guidance of adviser Laura Mongan, the Connetquot High School Science Olympiad team won five medals at the competition held over the Jan. 25 weekend at Hauppauge High School. The team is now ranked twentieth out of 63 schools.

Students Hajra Ahmed and Alessandro Romero came in seventh place in the Bungee Drop category, while Michael Fabbri and Fiona Gao came in seventh in the Dynamic Planet category.

Madison Holzmacher and Elaine Wang came in eighth place in the Geologic Mapping category as well as ninth place in the Microbe Mission category. Students Hannah Antony Raj and Jonathan Le placed 10th in the Electric Vehicle category.

The Connetquot Central School District is excited to recognize and congratulate these outstanding STEM students for their achievements!
