Capital Project 2019 Archive

As a result of a more than two-year discussion and planning process, the Connetquot Central School District Board of Education unanimously approved a resolution calling for a capital bond project to be placed on the May 21, 2019 ballot for voter consideration.

If approved, this project will not only bring much-needed updates to each of our school facilities, it is projected to carry no tax increase for residents, as funding will be secured through retiring debt, the use of capital reserve funds and New York State Building Aid. It is important to note that as these monies are specifically earmarked to cover construction costs, they cannot be allocated to support other areas of our operation, including programs or services.

The projects included in the proposed bond are ones the district believes will move our facilities – in terms of both program and infrastructure – into the future. Students’ educational experiences will be enhanced through updates to school libraries, auditoriums, playgrounds and athletic fields. The efficiency of our physical plant will be improved through updates to electrical and HVAC systems.  The addition of a “field house” at the High School with sanitary facilities will not only provide a comfort station for use during our robust physical education and athletic programs, but will also enable the district to enhance security protocols, as visitors will no longer need to enter our high school during outdoor events.

On behalf of the school district, I extend deep thanks to the members of the district’s Facilities Advisory Committee, which was comprised of multiple stakeholder groups that worked to develop this project. All residents are encouraged to review the materials  related to this proposal in order to  make an informed decision on May 21st.
