From Feb. 10-14, Connetquot celebrated Random Acts of Kindness Week, culminating with P.S. I Love You Day on Feb. 14. This heartwarming initiative focused on promoting kindness, mental health awareness and anti-bullying efforts.

Throughout the week, students participated in various activities, including signing a kindness pledge and making Valentine’s cards for seniors in nursing homes and those hospitalized. Some schools created a chain of kindness, a collection of positive messages from students, while others sent kindness grams to brighten a fellow student’s day. Students also created “Botjoys” or hand-drawn robots painted on dominoes that were created as part of an art movement aimed at spreading joy, courage and positive emotions. At the high school, students hosted stress-relief activities, along with a mental health resource table, bracelet sale and a self-love photo booth.

Students also attended assemblies covering internet safety, bullying prevention and the importance of being an upstander, led by experts such as Suffolk County Police Officer Fernandez, representatives from Northwell Health and the ReesSpecht Life Foundation.

Each school also participated in fun theme days to express kindness in creative ways. These included “Cozy Up with Kindness”, where students wore their coziest attire or pajamas, “Kindness Rocks!” in which students wore their favorite band or celebrity T-shirts, and “Team Up Against Bullying”, encouraging students to dress in their favorite athletic team or sports attire.

The week culminated with P.S. I Love You Day, a day dedicated to eradicating the stigma around mental health and providing support and love to all. Students and staff were invited to wear purple in support of the cause. Some schools also set up an appreciation station during lunch periods, where students could write a note for someone they care about.
