Each summer, Connetquot promotes a summer reading challenge for its elementary students through the public library. The building that reads the most wins an assembly, and this year, Sycamore Avenue Elementary was the winner!

Steve Petra, “the school assembly ventriloquist”, visited Sycamore Avenue with his interactive show called, “Reading Rampage”. Throughout the assembly, Steve brought students onstage for demonstrations and challenges as they interacted with a wide cast of bizarre character puppets, including The Brain, Pierre Lobsterre, Demento and Gus the Word Bird.

The show featured original songs and music, illusions and audience participation all centered in grade-level appropriate segments on vocabulary, spelling, punctuation and more.
