On Sept. 17, third grade students in Ms. Zelinski’s and Ms. McIntyre’s classes at Idle Hour celebrated Constitution Day, commemorating the formation and signing of the United States Constitution on Sept. 17, 1787.

The students first participated in a lesson about the U.S. Constitution, learning a brief history of why a set of laws were created for the United States of America. Then, each student received a copy of the Constitution, generously donated by the PTA. The copies provided a great opportunity for the students to study its parts: the Preamble, the Articles and the Bill of Rights. Lastly, the students learned that the Constitution is a living document and how the government can amend it. To add to the lesson, students were given small American flags, filling the classroom with a patriotic spirit.
