The Connetquot Central School District community flocked to the high school on May 19 to support the student-led initiative, “Using Our Voices” Mental Health Run/Walk. The Sunday morning event included a 5K run and Kids Fun Run, as well as opportunities to visit information booths connected to local mental health organizations.

The student-led run/walk was originally created by Center Moriches student leaders as a follow-up event to P.S. I Love You Day and the first annual Student-Athlete Leadership Conference that Center Moriches High School hosted for Section XI this school year.

Connetquot High School collaborated with student leaders from Center Moriches and North Babylon school districts to host this special event. The goal of “Using Our Voices” was to share important messages about reducing stress and anxiety, building relationships and supporting students’ mental and physical health through movement. Additionally, the run/walk allowed students to use their leadership skills to promote civic mindedness and to work towards achieving the district’s New York State Seal of Civic Readiness.
