Work-based learning experiences can prepare you to become college & career ready! In the 21st century workplace, the occupation-specific skills are no longer sufficient for graduates to meet the needs of labor markets. Communication skills, problem-solving, decision-making skills, and teamwork skills are the attributes that of employability skills with highest importance.
School-to-Work Program (Grades 9-12) FULL YEAR/ .5 - 3.0 CREDITS Students will have the opportunity to earn credit for working part-time! Whether you need help securing a job or already have one, our Work Experience Coordinator will help you become workforce ready and continue to reinforce employability skills by connecting classroom learning to successful workplace skills. Students must be co-enrolled in a business course and will meet with the Work Experience Coordinator during an informal classroom setting for mentoring. Students will earn between one-half (.5) and 3.0 credits depending on the number of hours they work.
The Summer Internship Program, run by NY State Certified Work Experience Coordinator Michelle Rapone, provides students the opportunity to gain valuable applied experience and make connections in professional fields they are considering for career paths. Pictured is Katerina Papandon, who interviewed and secured a 6-week internship at SCOPE Educational Services this summer. After her impressive interview, Patricia Walsh, Deputy Director for Finance, offered Katerina a paid internship. She is “extremely pleased with her professionalism and efficiency in completing any project she is tasked with.” Katerina attributes her understanding of the programs she’s working with at SCOPE to learning accounting and Microsoft Excel in her business classes. This summer internship program is one of a few work-based learning opportunities that help prepare students for career readiness.
