Band Director: Ms. Brasch
Students learn music and grow through performance. Band is an active “hands on” experience that requires a curriculum-based education that begins as early as singing the “A, B, C’s” in Kindergarten here at Bosti. We have a Beginning and an Advanced Band.
Beginning Band
The Beginning Band students begin lessons in September and have one pullout lesson each week from their class. The lesson schedule rotates so that students do not miss the same class each week. Beginning Band rehearsals start in January. This gives the student time to become proficient on his/her instrument. Rehearsals for Beginning Band are held once per week on Tuesday mornings, from 8:20-9:00 A.M. The Beginning Band performs at our Spring Concert and an Assembly program during the school day for students and faculty.
Advanced Band
The Advanced Band students begin lessons and band rehearsals in September. Students have one pullout lesson each week from their class. The lesson schedule rotates so students do not miss the same class each week. The Advanced Band rehearses on Wednesday and Friday mornings from 8:20-9:00 A.M. The Advanced Band plays in various school functions throughout the year. In addition, the Advanced Band performs a Winter Assembly (performed for students and faculty) and concert, as well as a Spring Assembly and concert.
Students have the opportunity to participate in NYSSMA (New York State School Music Association) Solo and Ensemble Festival as well as the SCMEA (Suffolk County Music Educators Association) Div. I (All-County) Festival. Students may also participate in Day of Tuba, Day of Horn, and Day of Percussion. These events are also sponsored by SCMEA. The Connetquot School District offers the opportunity to be a part of All-District Band as well. We are very proud of our band program and very talented musicians.
